A couple of years ago I picked up a SFIV SE stick for my PS3. I already had a spare JLF and some clear seimitsu buttons from a previous (canceled) project so I figured the SE would be good for a cheap, durable stick. So I swapped out the stock parts and put on some custom artwork and found I really liked this little stick. It worked perfectly until last night when it suddenly crapped out on me mid-match.
All the buttons work fine, but the joystick constantly registers down+right. Holding up+left registers neutral. Restarting the system and unplugging the stick did not help, nor did using a different JLF and 5-pin connector. So I'm assuming there's a short in the pcb itself, which brings me here.
I figure the simplest thing to do would be just get another PS3 SE pcb and replace it, but SE sticks don't seem to be that common anymore, with SFIV SE sticks going from $80-$120 these days. The cheapest I can find right now us the WWE Brawl stick for $50 at a couple of places, and from what I can see of the insides the pcb should drop right in. I'm also wondering if I could get MadCatz to sell me a replacement. If I could get just the pcb for cheaper than a new stick that would be great but I can't call them until Monday.
My other option would be to just get a different pcb, such as a cthullu or ps360, but my question there is how well would that work with the stick's home/turbo panel? I don't really care about turbo, but the home button and switches for input type and panel lock are directly on the pcb. I'd rather those still be usable than drill In a new home button and have a useless panel.
Anyway, thanks for reading this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
